"The land that I have given as an inheritance"

Text: Jeremiah 3:18

A WONDERFUL PROPHECY

There were words of rebuke given, but they were necessary! There was also hope offered to the very people who were rebuked for their sins!

“In those days the house of Judah
shall walk with the house of Israel,
and they shall come together out of the land of the north
to the land that I have given as an inheritance to your fathers.”
Jeremiah 3:18

a) This was the wonderful hope that was extended.
b) This would be nothing short of a miracle.

d) Judah and Israel fought many wars.
i) None was conclusive.
ii) One could not subdue the other.

2. “And they shall come together out of the land of the north”

a) What happened to Israel?
i) Israel was destroyed as a nation by Assyria in 722 BC.
ii) The people were scattered far and wide, especially up north.

ii) But the nation was in perpetual backsliding!
c) “The land of the north”
i) This would include both Assyria and Babylon.
ii) Babylon conquered Assyria and then moved southward to defeat Judah and other nations in the vicinity.

3. “To the land that I have given as an inheritance to your fathers”

a) God had promised Abraham the land of Canaan.
b) He led them out of Egypt and brought the children of Israel under the leadership of Moses and Joshua.
c) When the kings forsook God, they lost their land.
d) God now spoke about bringing them back into the land given as an inheritance to their forefathers
