Day 307

"Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place"

Text: Jeremiah 27:22

A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE

The LORD gave a glimpse of the future plan He had for Judah. There was the immediate future. There was the future after the Exile of Seventy Years.

“For thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars,
concerning the Sea, concerning the carts,
and concerning the remainder of the vessels that remain in this city,
which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take,
when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah,
from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem—
yes, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel,
concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD,
and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem:
‘They shall be carried to Babylon,
and there they shall be until the day that I visit them,’ says the LORD.
‘Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place.'”
Jeremiah 27:19-22

1. “For thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, concerning the Sea, concerning the carts, and concerning the remainder of the vessels that remain in this city”

a) The concern of the priests:

i) The pillars
These were made of brass.

ii) The Sea
(This was a brazen basin for ritual cleansing for the priests; 1 Kings 7:23-26).

iii) The carts
These were consecrated to carry temple vessels.

iv) The remaining vessels that were still in Jerusalem.

b) The priests were attached to these “holy vessels”.

2. “Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem”

a) King Nebuchadnezzar had taken away:

i) Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim.

ii) Nobles of Judah and Jerusalem.

b) He had left some articles behind.

3. “Yes, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem: ‘They shall be carried to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day that I visit them,’ says the LORD. ‘Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place.'”

a) The remaining vessels will also be taken to Babylon.

b) They will remain there and the LORD will bring them back to Jerusalem one day
(after 70 years of exile).
