"Prepare yourself and arise"

Text: Jeremiah 1:17

UNDERSTANDING THE MINISTRY OF THE LORD

The following things may be summarised as we review Jeremiah 1.

1. The Call of the Lord (Clear and certain)

2. The Concerns of the young servant of God answered (Novice)

3. The Course of Training by the Lord (On-going)

PREPARATION BY THE SERVANT OF GOD

There are many aspects of preparation that must be considered. Often, the academic-theological aspect is emphasised. This is not unimportant. But there are other aspects of preparation that are just as important, if not more so!

“Therefore prepare yourself and arise,
And speak to them all that I command you.
Do not be dismayed before their faces,
Lest I dismay you before them.”
Jeremiah 1:17

1. “Therefore prepare yourself and arise”

a) Personal preparation is the focus here obviously.
b) The following may be highlighted:
i) Mental
ii) Emotional
iii) Spiritual
c) The knowledge aspect:
i) God will reveal.
ii) He would give to Jeremiah the contents of the messages.
d) Jeremiah must arise with courage and confidence.

2. “And speak to them all that I command you”

a) The servant of God is His messenger.
b) His duty is to obey the Lord.
c) Whatever God commands, he must find the courage to speak.

3. “Do not be dismayed before their faces”

a) Dismay may be felt.
i) It is often caused by fear.
ii) Fear of man.
iii) Fear of suffering at the hands of the wicked.
b) Dismay may be fought successfully.
i) Strength can be found.
ii) Courage will be given if it is sought in prayer.

4. “Lest I dismay you before them”

a) The servant of God may succeed.
b) He may also fail and end up in dismay.

5. A Vital thing to remember

a) To Prepare
b) How this may be done effectively.
i) In cultivating a deeper knowledge.
ii) In building a stronger faith.
iii) In exercising courage.
