"Therefore submit to God."

Text: James 4:7

DEALING WITH PROBLEMS EFFECTIVELY

James dealt with problems candidly and thoroughly. In this text he gives important insights as to how problems may be resolved effectively.

“Therefore submit to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
James 4:7

1. “Therefore”

a) This inferential particle shows us the link between this text and the previous verses.
b) James is on the same topic of dealing with the problem fighting and warring (James 4:1-6).

2. “Submit to God”

a) This was a basic problem.
b) There had been no submission to the Lord God.
c) Instead the following took place: –
i) Self-will.
ii) Being enamoured of the world.
iii) Being resistant to the Spirit of God.
iv) Being arrogant in spirit.
d) These sin problems must be dealt with, with God in mind.

3. “Resist the devil”

a) The devil was involved.
b) He had not been resisted.
c) Instead there had been a yielding to him.
i) His temptations had not been resisted.
ii) He often lures through the pleasures to be found in the world.
iii) There had no great effort made to resist the Evil One.
d) Resistance must be offered in the grace and strength of the Lord.

4. “He will flee from you”

a) He will flee because he cannot resist the Name and power of God.
b) He will flee because he knows he cannot gain a foothold against the strong believer.
c) He will flee because the Lord Himself will bid him to leave.
