"Man shall not live by bread alone..."

Text: Deuteronomy 8:3

OUR LIFE ON EARTH

Whether we live in the days of Moses or we live in the 21st century, we will face similar challenges. God wanted to teach the children of Israel how to face life’s challenges effectively. It is so easy to get caught up with life that we end up forgetting the place of God’s word.

“And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you
all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you
and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would
keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed
you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know
nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that
man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every
word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.”

THE GLORIOUS EXAMPLE OF THE LORD JESUS

The children of Israel had a hard time learning the lesson of living by the word of God! Their hearts were so geared towards the things of the world that they failed to appreciate the word of the Lord.

Jesus exemplified what it means to live by the word of God (Matthew 4:4). And He is able to defeat the Devil because of His firm and steadfast focus on living by the Word of God!

Let us seek to learn how we too can hide the Word of God in our heart and live triumphantly by it!
