"Their glory shall fly away like a bird"

Text: Hosea 9:11

THE GLORY THAT GOD GIVES

All glory belongs to the LORD. In His grace and love He gives glory to man. But that glory must not be abused or it will not remain!

“As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird-
No birth, no pregnancy, and no conception!”
Hosea 9:11

1. The glory that God gives to Man

a) Made in His image (Genesis 1:27).
b) Crowned with glory and honour (Psalm 8:5).

2. “As for Ephraim”

a) His glory was predicted by his grandfather Jacob.
b) “Greatness” would be experienced by Ephraim (Genesis 48:19).
c) It became a leading tribe in Israel.
d) Ephraim and Manasseh replaced Joseph.
i) Technically, they were the nephews of all the uncles whose tribes were named after them.
ii) They took their place as two of the tribes that made up Israel.
iii) No other children were given such honour and glory.

3. “Their glory shall fly away like a bird”

a) The greatness they were given would not last.
b) That glory shall fly away from them.

4. Perpetuation of glory

a) Through their descendants.
b) Through the usual means:
i) Birth
ii) Pregnancy
iii) Conception

5. No perpetuation of glory

a) This was forewarned.
b) Ephraim would no longer be blessed with glory.
c) Ephraim, representing Israel, would also no longer enjoy the perpetuation of glory.
d) The loss of glory for Israel would be acutely felt.
