"I will redeem them from death"

Text: Hosea 13:14

THE POWER OF DEATH BROKEN

A glorious word of mercy and hope was given to Israel. This was like a life-line to Israel.

“I will ransom them from the power of the grave;
I will redeem them from death.
O Death, I will be your plagues!
O Grave, I will be your destruction!
Pity is hidden from My eyes.”
Hosea 13:14

a) Only the LORD can offer such hope.
b) No human being would be able to overcome the power of the grave.

b) God offered redemption from death.

3. “O Death, I will be your plagues”

a) Death was personified as an enemy to be defeated.
b) God would plague Death and defeat it.

There can be no pity shown to Death.
b) The enemy Death must be destroyed completely.

THE CONQUEROR OF DEATH

The Lord Jesus Christ is not only our Saviour, He is also the Conqueror of Death. The joyous spirit of the Apostle Paul enabled him to write these triumphant words.

“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”

“But thanks be to God,
who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:55, 57
