"O Israel, you are destroyed"

Text: Hosea 13:9

AN HONEST APPRAISAL

The LORD gave an honest appraisal of the state of affairs concerning Israel. The situation was dire!

“O Israel, you are destroyed,
But your help is from Me.”
Hosea 13:9

1. “You are destroyed”

a) Economically
i) There was impending war.
ii) The outlook was bleak.
b) Politically
i) The rulers were weak.
ii) The judges were corrupt.
iii) The country was divided because of different self-interests.
c) Morally
i) It was near bankruptcy.
ii) Hardly anyone held to high moral values.
d) Spiritually
i) Idolatry prevailed.
ii) The LORD was forsaken.
iii) There was great darkness in the land.
e) Individually
i) Many had lost hope.
ii) There was tired resignation.

2. “But your help is from Me”

a) The only One who could help was the LORD.
b) He still offered to help Israel despite its sinfulness.
c) The LORD their God:
i) He remained faithful.
ii) He was completely merciful.
iii) He was powerful enough to render help if the nation returned to Him humbly.
