"I will not execute the fierceness of My anger"

Text: Hosea 11:9

A MERCIFUL DECISION

Thank God for His matchless grace and mercy. His Divine decision was made known to Israel.

“I will not execute the fierceness of My anger;
I will not again destroy Ephraim.
For I am God, and not man,
The Holy One in your midst;
And I will not come with terror.”
Hosea 11:9

1. “I will not execute the fierceness of My anger”

a) The anger of the Lord:
i) It is righteous.
ii) It is justified.
b) Execution of His anger:
i) Fierceness describes the full extent of the righteous judgment of God.
ii) God can moderate the judgment to be executed.
iii) Fulness of His anger will not take place.
iv) Some mercy would be shown.

2. “I will not again destroy Ephraim”

a) The time of the Judges saw Israel in great distress.
b) The nation was overrun by many other hostile nations.
c) God will not let this happen again.

3. “For I am God, and not man”

a) God can show great restraint.
b) He can exercise mercy whereas man is more limited.

4. “The Holy One in your midst”

a) God will continue to be in the midst of the sinful nation.
b) He will continue to be Holy amidst much evil and sinfulness.

5. “And I will not come with terror”

a) God will not frighten Israel into submission.
b) He will not terrorize His people.
c) He will continue to come to His people with mercy and holiness.
d) He will continue to be the God of great compassion and kindness.
