Day
Day 230

"He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself."

Text: Hebrews 9:26

PROFOUND SIGNIFICANCE OF CHRIST’S DEATH

What if Jesus’ ministry had been with the earthly tabernacle? This hypothetical question could be raised up. What would be the answer? Let us ponder the answer the author of Hebrews gave.

“He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation
of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has
appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”
Hebrews 9:26

1. He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world

a) This is a statement that must be understood if we raise a lot of “ifs”.
i) If Christ had been born into the Aaronic high priestly line.
ii) If Christ’s ministry was only with the earthly tabernacle.
b) To suffer often
i) The thought of Christ suffering repeatedly is unthinkable.
ii) How many times would He have to be reincarnated to offer Himself as a sacrifice?

2. But now once at the end of the ages

a) Many ages may be counted.
i) Pre-flood age
ii) Post Flood age
iii) Abrahamic age
iv) First covenant age
v) The new covenant age
b) He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

All ages (past, present and future) meet in Christ Jesus! By His perfect sacrifice He has effectively “put away sin”! His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary was perfectly sufficient to deal with the problem of sin once and for all!
