Hebrews
Day
Day 226

"Without shedding of blood there is no remission."

Text: Hebrews 9:22

A VITAL OBSERVATION

The author of Hebrews made a vital observation as he reviewed the establishment of the first covenant.

“Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle
and all the vessels of the ministry. And according to the law
almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding
of blood there is no remission.”
Hebrews 9:21-22

1. He sprinkled

a) Sprinkling was of high symbolic significance.
b) It would be impossible to do anything more than sprinkling.
c) The significance was not lost just because sprinkling was the chosen method.

2. He sprinkled with blood

a) Another significant symbol was “blood”.
b) The following must be appreciated.
i) The sacredness of the Covenant.
Blood represented sacredness because life had always been regarded as sacred (Genesis 9:5).
ii) The symbol of atonement
The life-blood of an animal had to be shed in order for sins to be covered.

3. The tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry

a) Sprinkling had to suffice for it would be impossible to soak all items in blood.
b) Sprinkling symbolized both purification and consecration.

4. Without shedding of blood there is no remission

This statement is valid for two very strong reasons:-

a) The nature of sin and how it offends God.
b) The nature of the Holiness of God.

There must be a remission of sins before one can enter into the Presence of God!
