"High Priest of the good things to come..."

Text: Hebrews 9:11

A NEW REVELATION

God had another Tabernacle in mind! This was a staggeringly new revelation that the author wrote in the following text!

“But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come,
with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands,
that is, not of this creation.”
Hebrews 9:11

1. Christ came as High Priest

a) He was of the order of Melchizedek.
b) This was a Divine order that was far greater in significance than the Levitical order.
c) He is High Priest of the order of Melchizedek.

2. Of the good things to come

a) The focus is not on things earthly (“food and drinks etc” Hebrews 9:10).
b) If it is not earthly, then it must be with reference to eternal things.

3. Greater and more perfect Tabernacle

a) In every way the Tabernacle that Jesus ministers at as High Priest is greater and more perfect.
b) The differences have already been established (Hebrews 7-8).

4. Not made with hands

a) The contrast is now even more vivid.
b) The earthly Tabernacle was made with man’s hands.
c) The “greater and more perfect Tabernacle” was not made by man’s hands.

5. Not of this creation

a) There was emphasis on the contrast between the earthly and heavenly Tabernacles.
b) The reader is urged to think beyond the earthly Tabernacle to the Heavenly one.
