"He is also able to save to the uttermost..."

Text: Hebrews 7:25

OUR ETERNAL SALVATION IN CHRIST

Our salvation in Christ is a most precious gift that we must never have any doubts of. Let us review some of the most precious promises of the Lord concerning our salvation in Christ. Let us ponder three wonderfully glorious promises!

1. The promise of an everlasting life

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

2. The promise of no judgment

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
John 5:24

3. The promise of protection of our eternal life

“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all;
and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”
John 10:28-29

A MOST REASSURING COMMENT

Despite the fact that the above promises are so clear they need little elucidation, nevertheless there are some who are troubled by fear of losing their salvation. They are worried about sins in their life. They are worried that they could lose their salvation if they were to find themselves going astray badly! To those who are troubled the author of Hebrews has this special word of comfort and exhortation.

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those
who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make
intercession for them.”
Hebrews 7:25

1. He is also able to save to the uttermost

a) He is the Unique Son of God who tasted death for everyone (Cf. Hebrews 2:9)
b) He has defeated even Satan and his power over man (Cf. Hebrews 2:14-15)

2. He lives always to make intercession for them

a) He is aware of our many weakness (Cf. Hebrews 4:14-16)
b) He is our Faithful and compassionate High Priest (Cf. Hebrews 4:15)
c) He lives forever to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:21, 25)
