"He of whom these things are spoken..."

Text: Hebrews 7:13

AN EVEN MORE FORMIDABLE TASK

An even more formidable task lay ahead. This was honestly admitted by the author of Hebrews.

“For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to
another tribe, from which no man had officiated at the altar.”
Hebrews 7:13

1. He of whom these things are spoken

a) “He” is a definite reference to Jesus.
b) Of whom these things are spoken:-
i) In this context the reference is to Melchizedek as a Type and Jesus as the Antitype.
ii) Jesus is this King of righteousness.
iii) He is also King of peace.
iv) He is also High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

2. Belongs to another tribe

a) Jesus came from the tribe of Judah.
b) No priestly role was assigned to this tribe.
c) No prophetic word was given concerning a possible priestly role.
d) Historically, no man from Judah ever officiated at the altar.

WHAT ABOUT DAVID?

The Scriptures speak highly of the devotion of David to God. Though he was a man of prayer and praise, the Scriptures at no time described him as one who officiated at the altar. David had the special privilege of being attended by both priests and prophets! They would be there to guide him with reference to worship and intercession.

THE CASE OF KING UZZIAH

Arrogant king Uzziah presumed that he could “burn incense on the altar of incense” (Cf. 2 Chronicles 26:16). He was resisted stoutly by the faithful priests of God. Uzziah was struck with leprosy as a direct judgment from the Lord! He fled from the temple in terror of the Lord (Cf. 2 Chronicles 26:20-21).
