"Do not become sluggish..."

Text: Hebrews 6:12

MANY SINS TO WATCH OUT FOR

The author made reference to a number of sins that could potentially hurt believers badly. Let us take a look at this list:-

1. Drifting away Hebrews 2:1

2. Neglect Hebrews 2:3

3. Hardening of the heart Hebrews 3:8, 15

4. Unbelief Hebrews 3:12, 19

5. Not mixed with faith Hebrews 4:2

6. Disobedience Hebrews 4:11

ADDING TO THE LIST OF DEADLY SINS

To the above list of sins, the author of Hebrews added another one.

“That you do not become sluggish…”
Hebrews 6:12a

No sin should be dismissed as trivial. Every sin has the potential power to hurt the believer badly!

1. The sin of sluggishness with reference to life in general.

a) This sin expresses in many forms.
b) The Book of Proverbs severely warns against this sin:-
i) It describes a person with “a slack hand” (Cf. Proverbs 10:4a)
ii) It describes the “slothful” (Cf. Proverbs 12:24, 27; 15:19)
iii) It describes the “sluggard” (Cf. Proverbs 13:4)

2. The sin of sluggishness with referent to the spiritual life.

a) It causes a believer to be laid-back.
b) It causes a believer to take no interest in serving the Lord.
c) It causes a believer to backslide and be filled with his own ideas (Cf. Proverbs 14:14).
