"Enlightened..."

Text: Hebrews 6:4

BLESSINGS THAT MUST NEVER BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED I

Let us take time to ponder these blessings of God. They must never be taken for granted in any way.

1. Those who were enlightened

a) Enlightenment (“photistenthentas”)
i) This word is drawn from the idea of “light”.
ii) Enlightenment is essentially receiving light from God.
b) Enlightenment is a special blessing from God.
i) God gives us light and we have “enlightenment”.
ii) Through enlightenment we comprehend vital spiritual lessons.

2. The danger highlighted

a) It is possible to lose enlightenment.
b) It is possible to slip back into darkness.
c) It is possible to remain in darkness after that.
d) It might well be impossible for the person who has rejected enlightenment to be restored to the same level of enlightenment!

A STRONG WORD OF WARNING

The apostle John warns of this danger in the following text.

“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come
into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light,
because their deeds are evil.
For everyone practising evil hates the light and does not
come into the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
John 3:19-20

When a person loves sin more than enlightenment from God, it is possible to lose that light from God! If the individual continues to choose to remain in darkness, it is more than possible that he would remain in the grip of evil. It is impossible to restore the person who chooses the darkness associated with evil over the light of God’s truth!
