"Laying... the foundations..."

Text: Hebrews 6:1

LAYING A STRONG FOUNDATION II

Let us continue to study what the author of Hebrews suggested as
“foundation” of our Christian faith.

1. Laying on of hands

The apostle Paul made use of this phrase in the following text.

“The laying on of the hands of the eldership.”
1
Timothy 4:14

a) The presbyters were the leaders of the Church.
b) They were ranked under the apostles and prophets.
c) The laying on of hands is commonly referred to as
“ordination”.
d) This doctrine emphasizes a necessary understanding of church
polity (governance).

2. The resurrection of the dead (Cf. Classic chapter : 1
Corinthians 15
)

a) Christ was considered the firstfruits.
b) All who believe in Him would one day receive a resurrection
body.
c) This is a great Christian hope.

3. Eternal judgment

a) There will be an eternal judgment.
b) Those who have believed in Christ have already been judged and
they have passed from death to life (Cf. John 5:24)

NO OTHER FOUNDATION

The apostle Paul reminds us that the concept of foundations was
applied to:-

1. The Church (Cf. Ephesians 2:20)

2. The individual believer (Cf. 1 Corinthians 3:11)

It would not harm us to check our foundations. In fact it would do us
a world of good to check if we have laid a strong foundation. If our
foundations are not laid strongly we would never be able to build a
strong house. Jesus reminds us that if we do not build on a solid
foundation we can suffer severe loss (Cf. Matthew 7:24-27)!
