"Those who are of full age..."

Text: Hebrews 5:14b

BABIES COMPARED TO THOSE WHO ARE OF “FULL AGE”

This comparison between “babies” and those who are of “full age” is not unexpected. Let us ponder some basic differences:-

1. Babies

a) They cannot teach others concerning the faith for they still need to be taught (Hebrews 5:12a)
b) They know only the “first principles of the oracles of God” (Hebrews 5:12b).
c) They continue to need milk.
d) They are unable to digest “solid food”.

2. Those who are of full age

a) They have gone beyond partaking only of milk.
b) They are able to partake of solid food.
c) They have acquired necessary skills in the handling of the word of righteousness.
d) They are able to teach others (in contrast to “babies”).
e) They have become of “full age”:-
i) They have matured sufficiently.
ii) They have an important base of the knowledge of God.
iii) They have developed a strong sense of personal righteousness.
iv) They are able to teach others about God and righteousness.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BEING “OF FULL AGE”

It is only when a person has become “of full age” that he is able to be considered for significant ministry. Let us be challenged to grow as Jesus did!

“And the Child grew and became strong in spirit,
Filled with wisdom…
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature,
and in favour with God and men.”
Luke 2:40, 52
