"And having been perfected..."

Text: Hebrews 5:9

THE GROWTH OF JESUS

The Gospel of Luke took careful note of how Jesus grew in His childhood to adulthood. The following texts are of significance.

“And the Child grew and became strong in spirit,
filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.”
Luke 2:40

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature,
and in favour with God and man.”
Luke 2:52

The following features may be listed for easier comprehension:-

1. Strong in spirit

2. Filled with wisdom

3. Increase in wisdom and stature

4. High approval was accorded Him:-

a) By people
b) By God Himself

FULL MATURITY REACHED

The following text highlights an important truth- that Jesus reached the highest possible level ever.

“And having been perfected…”
Hebrews 5:9

1. Perfected (“teleiotheis”)

a) This word “perfected” describes a very human process.
b) Christ’s sinless perfection is not in view here.

2. Having been perfected

a) This is with reference to the natural growth of Jesus as Man.
b) The hardest lesson that He had to master was “obedience”.
c) To become fully obedient to God is regarded as “having been perfected”.
