He had to be made like His brethren...

Text: Hebrews 2:17

ACCORDING TO GOD’S MASTER-PLAN

Did God have a master-plan into which Jesus fitted? The answer may be found in the following text.

“Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren,
that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things
pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”
Hebrews 2:17

1. “Therefore” (“hothen”)

a) This is an inferential particle (among others).
b) It is used to indicate “logical reason” behind actions.

2. “His brethren”

a) There is deep meaning behind the simple word “brethren”.
b) If Jesus wanted to fully identify Himself with His brethren, He must “be made like His brethren” (logical).
c) Fresh appreciation of Jesus is warranted.

3. “In all things”

a) He had to be made “lower than the angels”.
b) He must partake of “flesh and blood”.
c) He must be prepared to suffer in life.
d) He must be prepared to partake of death too.

4. “He had to”

a) We may think of a “master-plan” of God.
b) Jesus’ humanity was part of that “master-plan”.
c) There was no choice for Jesus- if He wanted to be identified with “His brethren”.

We must stand in awe of Jesus fulfilling all aspects of God’s master-plan!
