"Taste death for every one "

Text: Hebrews 2:9

HOW EASY IS IT TO DIE FOR ANYONE?

The apostle Paul pondered this thought in his epistle to the Romans.

“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die;
yet perhaps for a good man someone would even
dare to die.”

Romans 5:7

It is not easy to die for anyone! Humanly speaking it is certainly nigh impossible to think about laying down one’s life for unworthy and sinful mankind!

TASTING DEATH FOR EVERY ONE

Once again, let us ponder this most striking text.

“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower
than angels, for the suffering of death
crowned with glory and honour, that He,
by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.”

Hebrews 2:9

1. He (Jesus)

a) Only He who is both God and Man can attempt and accomplish the impossible.
b) Only Jesus, filled with love and compassion can endure suffering and death for us.

2. The grace of God

a) Grace reminds us that we, who are sinners, are totally undeserving beneficiaries.
b) Grace teaches us much about the God of our salvation; especially His love.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

3. “Might taste death for everyone”

a) This is a beautiful description that speaks of Jesus as our Substitute.
b) Sin’s penalty of “death” had been paid by Christ through His death.
c) “Death” has no more power over all who are justified by Christ through His death.

The individual however must personally appropriate the significance of Christ’s death through exercising faith in Jesus as Saviour.
