"Working in you what is well pleasing in His sight..."

Text: Hebrews 13:21

THE FULFILMENT OF A BENEDICTION-PRAYER

How would a benediction be fulfilled? We have an idea of how a benediction is fulfilled in the following text.

“Working in you what is well pleasing in His sight…”
Hebrews 13:21c

1. Working in you

a) This is a reference to God working in the life of the believer.
b) What a thrilling benediction this is.

2. Agreement from Paul’s teaching in particular

a) Paul’s confidence that the good work God has begun He will also complete (Cf. Philippians 1:6).
b) This emphasis is particularly borne out in the following text:-

“For it is God who works in you both to will
and to do for His good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13

c) The idea of God working in us is further reinforced in this text:-

“For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus
for good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10

d) Paul’s testimony of God working in his life is found in this word:-

“To this end I also labour, striving according
to His working which works in me mightily.”
Colossians 1:29

3. What is well pleasing

a) There must be consciousness of the concept of that which is “well pleasing”.
b) Only that which is truly “good works” would be well pleasing to God.

4. In His sight

a) God’s Presence is acknowledged.
b) God’s Power is to be deeply appreciated for He alone can enable us to do every good work that would be well pleasing in His sight.
