"Make you complete..."

Text: Hebrews 13:21a

WHAT KIND OF BLESSINGS WERE IN MIND?

When we think of blessings, we often think of material things. However the author of Hebrews had in mind something else quite different. The first blessing he wished for his readers is found in the following phrase:-

“Make you complete…”
Hebrews 13:21a

1. Complete

a) This word is highly instructive.
b) This word was written using the infinitive (katartisai).
i) A definite goal is in mind here.
ii) Together with the goal there is also a strong sense of purpose too.

2. A study of the word “complete” (katartizo)

a) This word was employed by the Lord Jesus.
i) In the context of training His disciples.
ii) Reference is found here.

“A disciple is not above his teacher,
but everyone who is perfectly trained
will be like his teacher.”
Luke 6:40

b) The word “complete” may be translated “perfectly trained”.

3. The blessing prayed for in the Hebrews Benediction

a) That the readers may be made complete… that is, perfectly trained.
b) That the readers may move from having a simple faith to a mature one.
c) That the readers may become well-trained disciples of the Lord.
d) That they may be like their Master the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is a wonderful and deep blessing indeed! This blessing is surely more significant than material comforts of life!
