Text: Hebrews 13:8

MANY CHALLENGING PROBLEMS IN LIFE

The Christian life is anything but easy! There are so many problems in life. Here is a glimpse of life in the first century. Two categories of problems were highlighted in Hebrews 13.

1. There were political problems:-

a) The world was ruled by Rome.
b) Some Roman emperors were cruel and brutal.
c) Many suffered great injustice and were made prisoners (Hebrews 13:3).

2. There were personal problems:-

a) There were problems in the home (Hebrews 13:4).
b) There were problems related to living in a materialistic world (Hebrews 13:5-6).

THE ONLY CONSTANT

The writer of Hebrews offered a wonderfully encouraging word to his readers who were encouraged to live by faith!

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8

1. Jesus Christ

a) The significance of naming the Lord Jesus Christ must not be lost.
b) The reader is encouraged to remember who Jesus is when His name is invoked!
Two things may be highlighted:-
i) He is the express image of God and greater than angels (Cf. Hebrews 1-2).
ii) He is our great High Priest (Cf. Hebrews 2-10).

2. The same yesterday, today and forever

a) The eternal and unchanging nature of the Lord Jesus Christ must bring us comfort.
b) Focusing on who Jesus is will bring great courage, strength and victory in all the battles of life.
