Day 338

The LORD is my helper

Text: Hebrews 13:6

WINNING THE BATTLE AGAINST COVETOUSNESS

The battle against covetousness must be waged strenuously! The Lord’s personal help must be sought and applied. The writer of Hebrews suggests that the Lord would indeed come to our aid in this battle against the sin of covetousness.

“So we may boldly say:
‘The LORD is my helper;
I will not fear. What can man do to me?'”
Hebrews 13:6

1. So we may boldly say

a) Boldness is available.
b) Boldness also suggests confidence.
c) We have every reason to believe that we can defeat the problem of covetousness.

2. The LORD is my helper

a) This word cited may be traced back to Psalm 27:1.
b) It is interesting to note that Psalm 27 describes a battle scenario.
c) Covetousness is to be seen as an enemy that must be defeated.
d) This sin can be defeated if we know how to make the LORD our helper.

3. I will not fear

a) There may be times when covetousness may win a battle or two.
b) But fear need not arise when one is defeated at times.
c) There is ultimate victory.
d) The Lord’s Personal Presence will ensure us victory over the enemy called covetousness.

4. What can man do to me?

In Psalm 27 the fierce enemy was man; but what was this enemy when God is our Helper? In application, when we know that God is our Helper, we need not fear the enemy called “covetousness”. God can help us prevail against all odds! We need never fear even the deadly enemy of covetousness!
