"But you have come to Mount Zion..."

Text: Hebrews 12:22

FAR GREATER THAN THE SINAI EXPERIENCE

No matter how significant the Mount Sinai experience may have been to the children of Israel and to Moses, it pales completely when compared to spiritual Mount Zion!

“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city
of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an
innumerable company of angels.”
Hebrews 12:22

1. The physical Mount Sinai

a) This was where God revealed Himself to Israel.
b) But it was only a single experience.
c) God did not choose to make Himself known at Mount Sinai all the time.

2. The physical Mount Zion

a) Reference was made to Mount Zion in Psalm 48, 50.
b) The physical Mount Zion was another name for Jerusalem.
c) The city of Jerusalem was allowed to be destroyed by king Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BC
(This was recorded in 2 Kings 24; 2 Chronicles 36; Jeremiah 39, 52).

3. The heavenly Mount Zion

a) Beyond the imagery of the physical Mount Zion was a heavenly vision.
b) This was the heavenly Mount Zion described in Hebrews 12:22.
c) It is called “the city of the living God”.
d) It is inhabited by no less than powerful angels.
e) An innumerable company of these mighty angels attended to the Living God who inhabits Mount Zion.

THE PRIVILEGE OF ENTERING THE HEAVENLY HOLY CITY

Through faith in the Lord Jesus we gain admission into this Holy City of Jerusalem! If Moses trembled at Mount Sinai, how totally awed we ought to feel as we ponder the thought that we come to Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of God!
