You have not yet resisted to bloodshed...

Text: Hebrews 12:4

THE CORRECT PERSPECTIVE

It is vital to have the correct perspective of things, especially with reference to trials and tribulations! Just how tough were things (for the readers of Hebrews in particular)?

“You have not yet resisted to bloodshed,
striving against sin.”
Hebrews 12:4

1. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed

a) There might have been some losses.
b) There might have been some abuses.
c) There might have been some persecutions.
d) But the solemn reality was that there had not been bloodshed.

2. Encouragement to cultivate a correct and strong perspective

What was the author seeking to do when he wrote these strong words of admonition? The following thoughts may be suggested:-

a) A correct perspective must be obtained.
b) A strong perspective was also enjoined.
c) The right perspective maintained will enable a person to cope with trials in life.

3. Striving against sin

a) There was a great battle going on, where Christians were being persecuted.
b) But what was the battle all about?
c) Ultimately the battle may be said to be against “sin”.
i) Sin causes people to become intolerant of others.
ii) Sin causes people to persecute others.

4. Looking unto Jesus

Jesus endured the cross that was set before Him! He saw beyond the pain and the suffering! We too can triumph in our strife against sin if we keep looking unto Jesus.
