"For the joy that was set before Him"

Text: Hebrews 12:2b

THE GREATEST EXAMPLE

We could not find a better or greater example than the Lord Jesus Christ, if we are looking for true inspiration to run our race of life. Let us consider how Jesus ran His race of life.

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of
the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2

1. Looking unto Jesus

May we ever look unto Jesus always! And as we steadfastly look at Him, let us find that encouragement and strength to run well.

2. Who for the joy that was set before Him

a) Jesus ran His race with joy in His heart.
b) Wherein was that joy that was set before Him?
i) He found joy in ministry preaching, teaching and healing.
ii) He found joy in constant communion with His Father in prayer.
iii) He found joy in His friendship with His disciples.
iv) He found joy in fulfilling the tasks God gave Him to accomplish.

3. Endured the cross

a) His cross was the life that His Father had given Him to carry.
i) It was a cross that involved poverty.
ii) It was a cross of painful rejection from the people He came to save.
b) Finally it was the literal cross that He was crucified on at Calvary.

4. Despising the shame

Jesus was shamefully treated! Yet, He ignored the shame that His enemies sought to heap upon Him.

Jesus concluded His race well and is now at the right hand of the throne of God!
