Day 297

"By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land..."

Text: Hebrews 11:29

PANIC ATTACK

The children of Israel fled Egypt the night of the Passover. The Egyptians were more than glad to see the Israelites leave their country. They had suffered ten divine plagues that had crippled the country.

But soon after the children of Israel had left Egypt, the Pharaoh decided that he would capture and enslave them. The faith of the children would be tested severely! They had come to an impossible situation. In front of them was the Red Sea and behind them was the mighty Egyptian army. Many suffered a panic attack! They could see no solution to their predicament.

FAITH MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Even Moses was stumped for a moment. That precarious situation allowed God the opportunity to teach the children of Israel what it means to have genuine faith in Him.

“By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land,
whereas the Egyptians attempting to do so, were drowned.”
Hebrews 11:29

1. By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land

a) It was faith in God that made all the difference.
b) The children of Israel had to believe that God would make a way for them.
c) Faith brought about the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea.

2. Whereas

a) A careful distinction is made.
b) On the one hand, there was an exercise of faith; on the other hand, there wasn’t any faith in God (the enemies).

3. The Egyptians attempting to do so, were drowned

a) The Egyptians believed that they too could cross the Red Sea as the children of Israel did.
b) They pursued them into the Red Sea with confidence in their military superiority.
c) They reckoned wrongly, for they had failed to acknowledge and recognize that the God of Israel was fighting for His people (Cf. Exodus 14:14). The mighty Egyptian army suffered an embarrassing defeat that day!
