"Recall the former days..."

Text: Hebrews 10:32

PRACTICAL HELP

How do we guard ourselves against sinning against God willfully? We are all prone to take our salvation and our Saviour for granted! The following text offers sound advice as to how we can guard our hearts against sin.

“But recall the former days in which,
after you were illuminated, you endured
a great struggle with sufferings.”
Hebrews 10:32

1. But recall the former days

a) The power of recall is a wonderful means.
b) The practice of “recalling the former days” is a good one (Cf. Lamentations 3:21).

2. After you were illuminated

a) Recall the time when illumination from the Scriptures came.
b) Comprehension and understanding of the Scriptures resulted in illumination.

3. You endured a great struggle with sufferings

a) Recall the sufferings that came with faith in the Lord Jesus.
b) Recall the endurance that was there amidst suffering.
c) Recall the struggles that were experienced in times of suffering.

STORING UP IMPORTANT MEMORIES

We all have our store of memories. We must draw from our store of memories to help us hold fast to our confession of faith in the Lord Jesus! The following are memories that we ought to store up:-

1. When we first came to believe in the Lord Jesus.

2. How we cultivated our faith in Him.

3. How we struggled in the cultivation of our Christian walk.

4. How we endured suffering for Christ.

5. How the Lord has always been there for us.
