"Let us hold fast the confession..."

Text: Hebrews 10:23

THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING ADMITTED INTO THE HOLIEST

This is a truly awesome thought! How should one respond to this glorious new reality that is now given to all believers in Christ? Let us ponder the following text.

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
For He who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23

1. Let us hold fast

This phrase is to be appreciated against the backdrop of the 1st century readership.

a) There were those who drifted away (Cf. Hebrews 2:1).
b) There were those who neglected their faith in Christ (Cf. Hebrews 2:3).
c) There were those who were in danger of having unbelief (Cf. Hebrews 3:12).
d) The challenge to hold fast was thus correct and necessary (Cf. Hebrews 3:6; 4:14; 10:23).

2. The confession of our hope

a) This confession is centered in Christ Jesus as our great High Priest (Cf. Hebrews 3:1)
b) This confession of our hope has to do with our faith that our Great High Priest has passed through the heavens (Cf. Hebrews 4:14)

3. Without wavering

a) There should be firmness of faith.
b) There should not be any wavering at all.
c) This faith we have in Christ is to be held fast at all cost.

4. For He who promised is faithful

The Person who promised us this new and living way is none other than God Himself. He is the ever-faithful God!

a) This promise was recorded in the Holy Scriptures.
b) It was sealed by the blood of Christ.
c) The Holy Spirit Himself bears witness.
Let us be deeply encouraged to do our part to “hold fast” to our faith in Christ!
