Day 235

"A reminder of sins every year."

Text: Hebrews 10:3

A SOLEMN REMINDER OF SINS

The Levitical system demanded that sacrifices must be made by the high priest when he prepares himself to enter into the Most Holy Place on the Day of Atonement. Every worshipper who comes to God must offer a sin offering again and again! The author of Hebrews made this solemn observation.

“But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could
take away sins.”
Hebrews 10:3-4

1. In those sacrifices

a) The sacrifices were demanded by God.
b) They were not unimportant.
c) They were symbolically accepted by God.
d) However they had limited effects.

2. There is a reminder of sins every year

a) Sins continue to exert tremendous power in life.
b) Sins do not go away easily.
c) Each sacrifice reminds the high priest (and the people) that sin continues to be a very serious blight on the soul.

3. It is not possible

a) There is a solemn admission that the animal sacrificial system had very severely limited effects.
b) They are not able to take away sins.
c) Starting from the high priest to the youngest worshipper there would be admission that the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away the power of sin.

ONLY CHRIST CAN FULLY FREE A PERSON FROM SLAVERY TO SIN

We are reminded of what Jesus said in the following text.

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be
free indeed.”
John 8:36
