"Once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins." Hebrews 10:2b"

Text: Hebrews 10:2b

LIMITED EFFECT OF THE LEVITICAL SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM

What was the overall effect of the Levitical system? The answer may be found in the following text.

“For then would they not have ceased to be offered?”
Hebrews 10:2a

The argument is as follows:-

1. If the Levitical system had powerful effects then there would not be the need to keep making perpetual sacrifices.

2. The fact that repeated sacrifices need to be made testifies to the fact that it had very limited effect.

UNLIMITED EFFECTS OF CHRIST’S SACRIFICE

What about the sacrifice made by Christ? Let us ponder this tremendous text.

“For the worshipper once purified, would have
had no more consciousness of sins.”
Hebrews 10:2b

The effects of Christ’s sacrifice are literally unlimited! The following may be highlighted. The first four of which have already been noted!

1. Christ’s sacrifice is so perfect there was no need for any other sacrifice after His death.

2. His sacrifice opened up the Most Holy Place.

3. He ministers in the Most Holy Place on our behalf as our great High Priest.

4. Our eternal inheritance is secured through Christ.

5. With reference to the worshipper in the Levitical system:-

a) The worshipper has not been perfectly purified.
b) His conscience remains scarred.
c) He is still fully conscious of his sins.

6. With reference to the worshipper in the new covenant:-

a) He stands purified in the sight of God.
b) His sins have been dealt with and in Christ there is no consciousness of past sins.
