"And in this place I will give peace"

Text: Haggai 2:9

MONETARY CONCERNS

The cost of the temple project would be very high. There wasn’t a king like David of old, to give significantly. There were no rich princes to give the needed support. The remnant returnees were worried.

“‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’
says the LORD of hosts.
‘The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’
says the LORD of hosts.
‘And in this place I will give peace,’
says the LORD of hosts.”
Haggai 2:8-9

1. Three vital declarative statements

a) Each declarative statement had the phrase, “says the LORD of hosts” attached.
b) The attached phrase carried:
i) Authority
ii) Assurance
c) A series of three attached phrases were given:
i) To add weight.
ii) To encourage trust in the LORD of hosts.

2. “The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine”

a) This statement was declared to encourage greater faith in the LORD’S provision.
b) It was also meant to encourage those who were able, to give even more significantly.

3. “The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former”

a) To strengthen those who felt discouraged at the temple that was being built.
b) To help the builders to look beyond the physical dimensions.
c) Ultimately, glory comes from the LORD.
d) It is not the physical building that brings glory to God.
e) It is the LORD giving glory to the physical building.
f) And God can bring greater glory to the latter temple.

4. “And in this place I will give peace”

a) One of the most significant blessings God can give is His blessing of peace.
b) A physical building, no matter how magnificent, cannot give peace.
c) God promised that the latter temple will not fail to give peace to all who worshiped there.
