Day 173

"My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits." Psalm 71:15

Text: Genesis 26:1-35

A WONDERFUL REITERATION OF A PROMISE

What God said to Abraham must have thrilled the heart! He now reiterated what He had sworn to do to Isaac.

“And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven;
I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed
all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham
obeyed My voice and kept my charge, My commandments,
My statutes, and My laws.”

GENESIS 26:4-5

1. The Promise of many descendants

Isaac may have just two children, but there was no mistaking the promise of the Lord! It was crystal clear! There will be many more descendants! They would be as innumerable as the stars of heaven!

2. The Promise of the Land

Abraham was like nomad. He lived in tents. He traveled from place to place. Isaac seemed destined to do the same things. Situations like famine in the land seemed to dictate his movements.

Despite the above observations, the Lord insisted that He would give them “all these lands”. Would Isaac believe in the Lord’s promise?

3. The Promise of Blessing

Isaac must look beyond the here and now. He must, through faith see far into the future. All nations on the earth would be blessed “in his seed”. What could that mean? He must take time to dwell on this precious word!

There must have been some familiarity with this word of promise. His father, Abraham, must have shared with him these words from the Lord. Now, he was hearing these words spoken to him directly!

4. A good example to bear in mind

The Lord wanted Isaac not to forget the significance of his father’s example of obedience! He too must choose to walk in faith and in obedience!

5. Regard the Word of God

How should Isaac regard this word that the Lord had spoken to him? It is fascinating to note the words used to describe all that God had given to Abraham (and now to Isaac). God’s word was well described indeed.

“My charge, My commandments, My statutes, My laws.”

GENESIS 26:5

Isaac must also have the loftiest regard for the Word given to him!
