Text: Genesis 12:1-20
SIGNIFICANCE OF GOD’S BLESSINGS
Right from the start, God promised that He would bless man! What do His blessings signify? Let us never take God’s blessings for granted!
1. God’s delight in Man who bears His image
God’s blessings represent many things, one of which is His delight in the creature called Man. He was created differently. He was given God’s breath of life. He bore His image!
2. God’s commitment to help man realize his full potential
God made man to have dominion over the earth! That surely speaks of the tremendous potential that lies within man! However, without God’s blessings, man would never reach the fullness of his potential!
3. God’s grace is necessary for man is weak and sinful
God’s blessings are necessary, for man is far weaker and far more sinful than he cares to admit. From the earliest times, man had rebelled against God! Without the grace of God, expressed in the form of “blessings” man would never find life fulfilling!
4. God’s power to battle and overcome sin
God’s blessing is necessary for another reason. Sin is far more powerful than most comprehend. Sin is invisible and thus more deadly. It works insidiously. It works surreptitiously in the heart and mind of the individual. Before too long, sin manifests itself in terrible ways! Man needs God’s blessings badly!
EXPRESSIONS OF GOD’S BLESSINGS
Many are the expressions of God’s blessings!
1. Forgiveness of sins
Few appreciate the significance of what it means to be truly forgiven of sins! Those who died in the Great Flood realized too late how they should have repented of their sins. They could have and they would have received God’s forgiveness full and free if only they had repented and sought His forgiveness!
2. A Second Chance
God has many titles. A modern-day title could be, “The God-of-a-Second Chance”. God gave mankind a great second chance at the end of the Great Flood. A second chance given is surely a wonderful expression of God’s blessings!
3. In the Form of a Covenant
One of the most spectacularly beautiful expressions of God’s blessings must be that found in “Covenant”. There was the Noahic Covenant! God also gave to Abram a special covenant! All Covenant’s reflect the beauty of the Lord effectively!
