"But the fruit of the Spirit is love..."

Text: Galatians 5:22a

A WONDERFUL AND REFRESHING CONTRAST

The apostle Paul offered a beautiful contrast to the works of the flesh in the following text.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

1. “But”

a) A contrast is provided between the fruit of the Spirit and the works of the flesh.
b) The contrast is very stark and obvious!

2. “The fruit of the Spirit”

a) This is not meant to be an exhaustive list.
b) A small cluster of the fruit of the Spirit.
i) Love
ii) Joy
iii) Peace
iv) Longsuffering
v) Kindness
vi) Goodness
vii) Faithfulness
viii) Gentleness
ix) Self-control
c) These fruits are evidently seen in the lives of those who are Spirit-filled.

3. “Against such there is no law”

a) The keeping of the law cannot produce the above fruit.
b) Neither can the law control the production of the fruit of the Spirit.
c) The works of the flesh indicate that there is no Holy Spirit activity in the soul of the individual.
d) The law is powerless in the production of such spiritual fruit.
e) No one should desire to be “under the law” for obvious reasons.
