"To be spiritually minded is life and peace."

Text: Romans 8:6

NATURAL CONSEQUENCES

Significant observation must include “consequences”. The following text sheds important light.

“For to be carnally minded is death,
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
Romans 8:6

1. “For to be carnally minded is death”

a) What is “carnality?”
i) It is taken from the word “flesh”.
ii) It may simply be translated “fleshly” or “of the flesh”.
iii) It is the antonym of being “spiritual”.
b) “Minded”
i) It is translated from a Greek word (“phronoma”).
ii) It describes the thinking of the individual.
iii) It also describes the inclination of the individual.
c) The carnal mindset
i) It describes a person who is inclined to think of things of the flesh.
ii) His mental inclinations are things related to the flesh.
d) Consequences
i) Death
ii) Spiritual death is the result.
iii) The carnally minded person is not responsive to things spiritual.

2. “But to be spiritually minded is life and peace”

a) “Spiritually minded”
i) The individual is inclined to the leading of the Spirit.
ii) His mind dwells on things related to the Spirit of God.
b) “Life”
i) Of course he has eternal life.
ii) The focus here is on a life that is especially blessed by the Lord.
c) “Peace”

This is another special blessing from the Lord. The perfect peace of God is a great blessing indeed.
