"Strengthened with might through His Spirit..."

Text: Ephesians 3:16

YET ANOTHER WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT DESCRIBED

The Apostle Paul wrote two prayers that he made on behalf of the Ephesians.

1. The First prayer Ephesians 1:15-19

2. The Second prayer Ephesians 3:14-21

In both prayers, Paul acknowledged the special work of the Holy Spirit. His ministry is of very great significance.

THE SPECIAL WORK OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

This work is to be deeply appreciated. Let us ponder these things.

1. “The spirit of wisdom and revelation” (Ephesians 1:17)

a) His work in our hearts is to teach us wisdom.
b) His work is also to reveal the deep things of God.
i) There must of course be acquired knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii) The Spirit of God enlightens us concerning our understanding of God.
iii) The ability to fathom things in depth is the work of the Holy Spirit.
iv) This is a work that we must never take for granted.
v) This is a work that we need to pray for.

2. The work of strengthening us in the inner man

a) There is the “normal strength” that everyone has.
b) Then there is a special strength that comes from the Holy Spirit.
c) Paul called this “strength in the inner man” (Ephesians 3:16).

“That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”
Ephesians 3:16

3. The Person who will grant this strength is the Lord God

a) This strength is to be sought in prayer.
b) Trusting in the riches of glory that is to be found in the Lord.

4. The Person who will actually be the Means of strength is the Holy Spirit

a) He will grant spiritual might.
b) There will come special strength to cope with life and ministry.
c) This strength is an invisible strength in the inner being of an individual.

It cannot be seen with the human eye but may be understood with eyes of faith.
