"Revealed by the Spirit..."

Text: Ephesians 3:5

ANOTHER WONDERFUL MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

We have another description of the work of the Holy Spirit in the following text.

“Which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men,
as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets:
that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body,
and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel.”
Ephesians 3:5-6

1. “In other ages was not made known to the sons of men”

a) History may be divided into ages.
b) In “other ages” certain truths were not revealed.
c) In God’s profound wisdom and sovereignty certain things remained hidden.

2. “It has now been revealed by the Spirit”

a) In this age, which we may describe as the “New Covenant age”.
b) A glorious truth was revealed by the Holy Spirit.
i) He may indeed be described as the One who reveals God’s mysteries.
ii) And He has revealed a precious truth indeed.

3. “That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs”

a) Gentiles were included in God’s plan of redemption and blessing.
b) They are to be understood as “fellow-heirs” with Jewish believers.

4. “Of the same body”

a) That body is a reference to Christ Jesus’ body.
b) The church is the Body of Christ.

5. “Partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel”

a) Gentile believers are partakers of God’s promise.
b) God’s promise of full redemption was not restricted to the Jews.
c) Every believer who receives the Lord Jesus as Saviour becomes a partaker of God’s promise.
d) That believer becomes a partaker (a person who shares in the glorious promise of God that all should be His children, and fellow heirs).

6. “The apostles and the prophets”

They were the main servants of God who proclaimed and taught this great truth! These were special servants. These were well-accepted and well-respected servants of the Lord.
