"To the glory of God..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 1:20

THE GLORY OF GOD

In both the Old and New Testaments, the glory of God was a thought that the writers kept foremost in mind.

1. In the Old Testament

a) The glory of God was revealed in the mighty deeds the Lord performed for His people.
b) His glory was made most evident in the days of Moses.

2. In the New Testament

a) The glory of God was wonderfully reflected in the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus.
b) That glory continued to shine forth in and through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

A SIGNIFICANT TEXT

We have a significant word that speaks of the glory of God in the following text.

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes,
and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ
and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us
and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”
1 Corinthians 1:20-22

1. “To the glory of God”

a) Paul faithfully sought to highlight the glory of God.
b) He traced the glory of God in life and ministry.

2. Reflecting the glory of God

The following things well and truly reflect the glory of God: –

a) The promises of God (a reference to the Scriptures)
They are indeed “Yes” and “Amen”.
i) We may be assured that God will always keep His word to us.
ii) We may indeed regard His word as precious “promises”.
b) The work of establishing us in Christ
Thus we may be assured that we are truly the children of God.
c) The work of anointing (for salvation and for service)
How gracious the Lord is to anoint us with the Holy Spirit Himself.
d) The giving of the Holy Spirit
i) As a seal
ii) As a guarantee (Cf. Ephesians 1:13-14)
