Filled with the Holy Spirit
"The Spirit of God dwells in you."
Text: 1 Corinthians 3:16
SIGNIFICANT IMAGERIES EMPLOYED
There are a number of imageries used to describe the Church. The Apostle Paul used the following imageries because a single imagery is not sufficient.
1. The Church as the Body of Christ Ephesians 1:23
2. Household of God Ephesians 2:19
3. A holy temple Ephesians 2:21
THE CHURCH AS A TEMPLE OF GOD
The Apostle Paul wrote strenuously to explain to the Corinthians how they should view the Church.
“For we are God’s fellow workers;
you are God’s field, you are God’s building.”“Do you not know that you are the temple of God
and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him.
For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”
1 Corinthians 3:9, 16-17
1. Two imageries in this text
a) God’s field
b) God’s building
2. Elaboration of this building of God
a) This building is in fact “the temple of God”.
b) The Presence of God in the temple is the Holy Spirit Himself.
PROBLEMS IN THE CHURCH
A stern word of warning was given to the Corinthians because of the way some “believers” were harming the Church.

2. There were carnal people in the Church spreading their views and causing conflict and confusion.
