Filled with the Holy Spirit
"Full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom..."
Text: Acts 6:3
THE EXTENSIVE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
How extensive was the ministry of the Holy Spirit? A careful study of the Book of Acts would reveal that His ministry was far-reaching!
1. Empowering for ministry
a) The Spirit of God empowered the Apostles for effective ministry.
b) Thus the disciples became very strong and courageous in their life and ministry.
2. Great spiritual Gifts of the Holy Spirit
a) Being able to speak in foreign languages was just one gift.
b) There were other gifts that must be noted.
OTHER LEADERS RAISED UP
As the Church in Jerusalem grew in strength and numbers, many more were needed to serve. The Spirit of God was involved too. The Apostle Peter urged the Church to look out for people who were Spirit-filled.
“Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you
seven men of good reputation,
full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom,
whom we may appoint over this business.”
Acts 6:3
1. The qualities desired of church leaders
a) Good reputation
b) Full of the Holy Spirit
c) Wisdom
2. Would the Spirit of God be found among church members?
a) Seven men were indeed found.
b) Stephen was singled out for special mention.
i) He was full of the Holy Spirit.
ii) He was also described as “full of faith” (Acts 6:5).
iii) He was further described as “full of faith and power” (Acts 6:8).
iv) He was able to do great wonders and signs (Acts 6:8).
v) No one was able to resist the wisdom and the Holy Spirit by which he spoke (Acts 6:10).
THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR LIFE
As we read these uplifting texts, should we not ask if we too are seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit in our life? He was especially sent to empower and equip us for effective ministry! Let our hearts be deeply challenged to seek the filling of the Spirit of God!
