"He will glorify Me..."

Text: John 16:14

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE LORD JESUS

The disciples needed to learn how to appreciate the relationship between the Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit. This is to prevent any misunderstanding of the Person and ministry of the Spirit of God when He comes to the Disciples at Pentecost.

“He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine
and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine.
Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”
John 16:14-15

1. “He will glorify Me”

a) The Father glorified the Son.
b) The Spirit of God will do the same thing.
c) He will not glorify Himself but focus on giving glory to the Son of God.

2. “For He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you”

a) Jesus declared what the Father revealed to Him.
b) This was what Jesus faithfully did (John 8:29).
c) In a similar vein, the Holy Spirit will do likewise.

3. “All things that the Father has are Mine”

a) This is the unique relationship between the Father and the Son.
b) All that the Father has may be said to belong to the Lord Jesus Christ.
i) All of the Kingdom of God
ii) All power
iii) All authority
iv) All knowledge and wisdom
v) All spiritual gifts for ministry

4. “Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you”

a) All that the Holy Spirit will do will be consistent with what Jesus had taught.
b) He will not create a special “Holy Spirit” ministry.
c) Divine harmony and oneness will always be maintained.
d) There is no rivalry between the Holy Spirit and the Lord Jesus Christ.
e) Focusing on glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ does not mean lessening the ministry of the Spirit of God.
