Filled with the Holy Spirit
"I will pour My Spirit on your descendants..."
Text: Isaiah 44:3
A GLORIOUS PROPHETIC PROMISE
It is exciting to read prophetic material and see how they were fulfilled in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is humbling to note that the promise of the Holy Spirit was also promised to those who are servants of the Lord!
“Yet hear now, O Jacob My servant,
And Israel whom I have chosen.
Thus says the LORD who made you
And formed you from the womb, who will help you:
‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant;
And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
For I will pour water on him who is thirsty,
And floods on the dry ground;
I will pour My Spirit on your descendants,
And My blessing on your offspring.'”

1. The promise of the Lord
a) Of help
b) Of provision
i) Physical provision (water)
ii) Spiritual reference (water as an emblem of the Spirit of God)
2. “I will pour My Spirit on your descendants”
a) This was also declared by the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28-29).
b) This would be a signal outward indicator of God’s great blessing.
3. Fulfilment of this prophetic word
a) The outpouring of the Spirit of God was recorded in the Book of Acts (Acts 2:14-21).
b) The Holy Spirit came with great power.
i) Many disciples were given an extra-ordinary gift of speaking in foreign languages.
ii) This phenomenon impacted many people.
iii) Thousands of people came to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and they formed the first Church of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 2:40-47).
THE RELEVANCE OF THE FILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TODAY
Is the filling of the Holy Spirit relevant to us today? The answer is “Yes!” The greater challenge is to learn how we may be filled with the Holy Spirit! The Old Testament offers many precious promises. The New Testament offers insight as to how we may be filled with the Holy Spirit.
The impact of the Holy Spirit in our life is truly transformational. May our hearts desire to pray that we might be filled with the mighty Spirit of God!
