"He has filled him with the Spirit of God..."

Text: Exodus 35:31

THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

We often associate the filling of the Spirit of God with people like prophets and apostles. The following text reveals to us an important truth.

“And Moses said to the children of Israel,
‘See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri,
the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah;
and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding,
in knowledge and all manner of workmanship,
to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze,
in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood,
and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship.'”
Exodus 35:30-33

1. “The LORD has called”

2. Filled with the Spirit

a) This is a reference to the Spirit of God.
b) Three aspects are highlighted: –
i) Wisdom
ii) Understanding
iii) Knowledge
c) Once again we are reminded of the special features noted in Isaiah 11:2.

3. Practical expressions

a) All manner of workmanship.
b) To design artistic works.
c) To work in gold, silver and bronze.
d) In cutting jewels.
e) In carving wood.
f) To work in all manner of artistic workmanship.

4. These skills

In today’s world an individual takes a lifetime to become a highly skilful artisan in just one or two features. Bezalel was truly blessed with the filling of the Spirit of God so that he was skilled in many fields. In design, in metals, working with jewels and even in wood! This is an amazing illustration of being Spirit-filled!
