"He makes intercession for the saints..."

Text: Romans 8:27

INTERCESSION

In the Scriptures, we read of people whose intercessory prayers made a tremendous difference. Moses was one of the great intercessors whose prayers often resulted in Israel being spared from the wrath of God. If human prayers are heard by God, imagine the significance of the intercessory ministry of the Holy Spirit!

THE INTERCESSORY MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

This is a great mystery. How thankful we should be that we have such a great Intercessor!

“Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is,
because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Romans 8:27

1. An important detail to note about prayer

a) All prayers are offered to the Lord God.
b) How does God regard prayers?
i) He hears and He answers prayer.
ii) The basis of His answering our prayer is carefully noted in this text.

2. “He who searches the hearts”

a) This is an important truth to bear in mind.
b) There are clear texts that we must bear in mind concerning this truth
i) The Lord searches the heart (Jeremiah 17:10).
ii) He tests the mind too (Jeremiah 17:10).
c) The Lord will not respond favourably to those whose hearts and minds are:
i) Deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9)
ii) Faithless (Mark 9:19)
iii) Doubtful (James 1:6-7)

3. “Knows what the mind of the Spirit is”

a) God will hear the intercessory prayers of the Holy Spirit.
b) God knows the mind of the Spirit that it is absolutely pure.

4. “Because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God”

a) The Spirit of God makes intercession for the saints (the genuine believers).
b) He knows the will of God and He will intercede with the knowledge of God’s will in full view.
c) Of course the Lord God will hear and respond to the intercession of the Holy Spirit.
