Text: Exodus 40 : 4-7

 IN THE HOLY OF HOLIES

Only one article was to be placed in the Holiest Place, and that was the Ark of the Testimony. Into the sanctum sanctorum, the high priest was allowed to enter in, just once a year!

THE HOLY PLACE

There was another area called “The Holy Place”. In this place the following articles were to be found.

“You shall bring in the table and arrange the things
that are to be set in order on it;
and you shall bring in the lampstand and light its lamps.
You shall also set the altar of gold for the incense
before the ark of the Testimony, and put up the screen
for the door of the Tabernacle.”
EXODUS 40:4-5

1. “The Table”

This was called the Showbread Table. Twelve loaves were to be on this table. The table symbolized God’s provision for his people.

2. “The Lampstand”

The Lampstand symbolized God’s Divine light given to the nation. This light well represented the illumination that would come from the sacred Scriptures!

3. “The Altar of gold for the incense”

The golden altar of incense symbolized the prayers of Israel. Two things that Israel must never take for granted would be God’s Provision and God’s Illumination! The priests must ever pray that God would graciously meet all their needs.

THE TABERNACLE COURTYARD

There were two important things that needed to be placed in the courtyard of the Tabernacle. These two articles would complete all that the Lord required of Israel for Tabernacle worship.

1. The Altar of the burnt offering (for atonement and other purposes)

“Then you shall set the altar of the burnt offering
before the door of the tabernacle…”
EXODUS 40:6

2. The Laver (for ritual cleansing)

“And you shall set the laver between the tabernacle of meeting
and the altar, and put water in it.”
EXODUS 40:7
