Text: Exodus 35 :

A SPECIAL CALLING

Moses had a special calling from the Lord! He lived up to God’s calling in the most distinctive way. His character, his bearing, his spiritual maturity and lots more were challenged again and again. He truly walked worthy of his calling.

OTHER MEN ALSO SPECIALLY CALLED

Moses never spoke of himself as the only one who was called by God. Graciously, he singled out Bezalel and Aholiab as two specially called to work on the Tabernacle.

“And Moses said to the children of Israel,
‘See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri,
the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah…
And He has put in his heart the ability to teach,
in him and Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan.'”
EXODUS 35:30, 34

1. “See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel… and Aholiab”

The fact was that there were many “gifted artisans” in Israel (Exodus 35:25). God, in His wisdom, had specifically named the two men who would be placed in charge of the work of raising up the Tabernacle. Since, it was the LORD Himself who specially called them by name to oversee the building of the Tabernacle, there would be no dispute as to why they were preferred above other gifted artisans. Bezalel was most likely the chief coordinator.

a) His lineage was traced to the family of Hur
Hur stood with Aaron to support the hands of Moses as they were lifted up in intercessory prayer for Joshua in the battle against the Amalekites (Cf. Exodus 17:9-16).
b) A long list of his skills was recorded
Bezalel must have been exceptionally gifted to be to be described as one who possessed “knowledge and all manner of workmanship” (Exodus 35:31).
Aholiab was also mentioned by name, but scant information was recorded concerning his lineage and his skills.
2. “The ability to teach”

The work of raising up the Tabernacle was too massive for just two men to tackle. If they were to work alone, it would take ages to complete the task! Others must be called upon to serve in this ministry. However, they just might need expert coaching. They would need to be instructed.
