Day 324

"Who is wise? Let him understand these things. Who is prudent? Let him know them." Hosea 14:9

Text: Exodus 33 :17-18

ANOTHER GRACIOUS CONCESSION FROM GOD

The Lord must have loved Moses dearly! This was a rare man indeed! He seemed to fathom the depths of prayer that few knew existed!

“So the LORD said to Moses,
‘I will also do this thing that you have spoken;
for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.'”
EXODUS 33:17

What a wonderful acknowledgment the Lord gave to Moses! This word of the Lord may be understood in the following ways:-

1. “I will also do this thing that you have spoken”

Moses was right to pursue things as he did. The key word he wanted to hear was probably the word “also”. He had pleaded on Israel’s behalf! That prayer would be honored!

2. “For you have found grace in My sight”

God was pleased with Moses! He had persevered in prayer! He had sought to fathom the depths of God’s grace! God will grant his plea because he had found grace in God’s sight!

3. “And I know you by name”

What honor God gave Moses when He uttered these words! What are some of the implications? Three aspects may be highlighted!

a) A rare honor accorded
This was a rare honor for any man! God once made a similar statement to Abraham (Cf. Genesis 18:19)
b) Acknowledgment of Moses’ person
The name of a person and his character were closely tied together! God had examined Moses’ heart, mind and soul and found him to be a man of great integrity!
c) Personal relationship with God re-affirmed
God accorded to Moses a special status. Indeed, He spoke to him “face to face”. He spoke to Moses as if he was a dear and close friend (Exodus 33:11)

STILL PLEADING IN PRAYER?

Moses had yet another request to bring before the Lord! This time round, it was not about Israel! This time, it was a very personal request.

“And he said, ‘Please, show me Your glory.'”
